Sea Pines
Sea Pines was developed in 1956 by naturalist and conservationist, Charles Fraser. As Hilton Head's first residential and resort plantation community, Sea Pines set the standard for other plantations to follow.
The community is most famous for its three championship golf courses, including the Ocean Course, Sea Marsh Course (soon to be renovated by Pete Dye) and Harbour Town Golf Links, home of the Verizon Heritage Classic. Past winners of the Heritage include Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Payne Stewart.
Sea Pines is also home to world-famous landmarks, such as the Harbour Town Lighthouse and the Salty Dog Cafe. The Lighthouse is located in Harbour Town Marina, and the Salty Dog is found in the South Beach Marina Village. Both marinas are open to the public with shops, restaurants and outdoor activities, including charter fishing trips, dolphin watch cruises, sea kayaking and jet ski rentals.
Sea Pines consists of more than 5,000 acres and includes a lush, 605-acre forest preserve, access to five miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, over 100 tennis courts, more than 15 miles of paved bike trails, two security gates and numerous swimming pools. It is also the location of the South Beach Racquet Club, Sea Pines Racquet Club and Lawton Stables equestrian center.
